Arthritis Explained by Our Chiropractor
Arthritis can cause you a large amount of pain regularly. And because it's progressive, besides bacteria, viral, or fungal forms of arthritis, it tends to get worse over time. Due to stiffness, this condition can make it challenging to get up and move in the morning. In addition, forms like rheumatoid arthritis can cause other symptoms, such as lung inflammation. We can assist at Ponte Vedra Wellness Center in Nocatee, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
General Information
Arthritis is a condition that occurs when you have joint inflammation. It could affect one or more joints at a time. The cause of arthritis depends on the type. For instance, osteoarthritis occurs when you have joint damage due to wear and tear over time. Rheumatoid arthritis, on the other hand, occurs when your immune system mistakes the synovium (inside the joint that secretes synovial fluid) for an invader. Occasionally, arthritis could be caused by bacteria, a virus, or a fungi infection. Sometimes, a person may develop a disease like lupus or psoriasis.
Symptoms
While the symptoms vary based on the type of arthritis, some of the more common types:
- Swelling
- Joint pain
- Stiffness
- Redness
- Decreased range of motion
Risk Factors
You may be more at risk for arthritis as you get older, due to the wear and tear to your joints that occur over time. However, even your likelihood of rheumatoid arthritis will increase with age.
Certain types of arthritis run in families. Therefore, you have a greater chance of developing certain kinds of arthritis if a parent or sibling has it.
Obesity puts excessive weight on your lower body joints, including your hips, spine, and knees. In addition, if you've had a joint injury, you elevate your chances of developing arthritis in that joint.
Your sex plays a role. Women, for example, are more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than males. Although, men are more likely to develop gout.
Arthritis Treatment
Joint pain relief may include a spinal adjustment if you have back pain. Other treatments for joint pain may consist of exercise therapy. Besides our standard chiropractic care treatments, we offer cold laser therapy to target the source of your arthritis pain. In addition to chiropractic care, our practitioner may recommend massage or decompression therapy for pain relief.
